Many breakthroughs in modern science happen at the interface of previously unconnected fields of insight, but it requires intensive and extended conversation. In order to stimulate thorough and creative multidisciplinary brainstorming, we launch a new funding programme for blue sky research workshops.
With this new programme we specifically aim to create the right conditions for researchers to hit upon new ideas in a serendipitous way; time for slow science! We encourage and financially support applicants to involve outstanding guest researchers and leading thinkers to participate in the workshops. Only four of these exclusive workshop grants will be awarded per year.
The IAS Board of Associates will select the winning proposals based on:
The winning applicants get a senior IAS-affiliated researcher appointed as contact person to discuss the synergy potential with other IAS activities before the workshop, and to shortly evaluate the workshop afterwards.
You can submit a workshop proposal by sending us a completed application form and budget file, together with short CVs of the core participants. It is possible to combine a workshop proposal with a fellowship application.
The deadline for workshops to be organised in 2021 is: 1 December 2020.
