When a research position results from collaboration between UvA departments and the UvA Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) the formal place of employment is always at a department, whereas the IAS offers a physical home base for the interdisciplinary work.

  • Science communication intern UvA-IAS

    Are you an interdisciplinary-minded student with a passion for science communication?

    The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) at the University of Amsterdam is looking for a student to join as a science communication intern, supporting the communication advisor with a variety of tasks.

    The intern will work directly with the Communication Advisor. They will support and learn about a variety of tasks, such as:

    • Assisting in the creation and editing of content for various communication channels, such as social media, blog posts, newsletters, press releases, and the annual report;
    • Assisting in the communication of events, including invitation management and on-site support in photography and social media appearance;
    • Supporting the development and maintenance of media contact lists and databases;
    • Writing articles or profiles on notable individuals or projects within the organization;
    • Providing general administrative support, such as organizing files and documents;
    • Assisting with proofreading and editing tasks to ensure accuracy and consistency in written materials.

    We are looking for an intern for 10 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 1 year (preferred), ideally starting at the beginning of September. Working hours are flexible, and remote work will be possible part of the time, as agreed upon before the start of the internship.

    Additional candidate requirements

    • Excellent English written language skills. Dutch is not required, but preferred if there are multiple suitable candidates;
    • Background in or affinity with science journalism, digital media, or communication;
    • Affinity with or interest in interdisciplinary research;
    • Interest in content marketing;
    • Interest in social media;
    • Enrolled in a Dutch (applied) university during the entire internship;
    • Available for a minimum of 6 months;
    • Available for at least two half-days per week (preferably on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, but this is negotiable).
