Artist-in-Residence

At the institute we host an artist aiming to integrate thinking and practice at the possible intersections of complexity and arts.

At the IAS we see our role as breeding ground for experimentation and exchange across the continuum of artistic and scientific exploration. We believe that curiosity, imagination, and continuous questioning of established ways of doing are vital elements of understanding complex scientific and societal issues. By bringing artists into our community, we ask new questions, seek new perspectives, and cultivate openness of the mind. We aim to support collaborations that advance both art and science, and that provide new ways to deepen understanding of complex challenges that can neither be addressed by one discipline (nor by art) alone. Together, we find new methodologies, research questions, and ways of experiencing and re-imagining what might become.
