As a researcher or professional there are various options to join our collaborative research community. You can participate in events, join the theme groups, apply for a fellowship, join one of our networks or suggest (and lead) a new interdisciplinary research topic.

Join an event

View our calendar to see all events that are organised at the IAS. As venue capacity is limited and organisers are facilitating interactive discussions, the number of participants is often maximised. If you’d like to join an event but didn’t receive an invitation, please contact us.

Themes

We have clustered our research activities in several broad themes. By doing so, we aim to stimulate the exchange of knowledge, network contacts and ideas, and the establishment of new research collaborations.

Fellowship programme

A fellowship gives you the time and space to focus on a challenging interdisciplinary research topic. You will collaborate in an inspiring setting with other IAS fellows and researchers.

Suggest (and lead) a new topic

We can help you to broaden your network outside your own discipline and get input on your research challenge from a different angle. Criteria:

  • Interdisciplinarity
  • Novelty of the research topic and/or scientific approach
  • Fit / synergy with the IAS research lines

Contact us, to discuss the options.

Join one of our networks

IAS fosters collaboration through a range of networks that connect like-minded individuals across disciplines, facilitating interdisciplinary exchange, advancing research, and supporting innovative solutions to complex global challenges. These networks play a vital role in shaping and connecting the IAS community.

  • Science Sisters

Science Sisters (SciSis) is a peer support network of early/ish career women working in academia, across all disciplines and roles. SciSis strives to ‘do’ academia differently by creating spaces for solidarity and collaboration that center peer support. They organize regular co-working sessions at IAS and the SciSis Meet, a series of meetups with leading women working in academia across disciplines and roles.

  • IAS NEXT

IAS NEXT is a vibrant and dynamic community which aims to connect emerging researchers and academics within the Institute for Advanced Study. This network offers a unique platform for early-career researchers to collaborate, innovate, and engage with their peers across diverse disciplines. We aim to empower the next generation of thought leaders through a range of creative activities, workshops, and discussions. We offer resources and guidance to help members launch your own initiatives within the network, or beyond, ensuring they have the support needed to bring their ideas to life. Whether someone is looking to expand their research horizons, develop new skills, or simply connect with like-minded individuals, IAS NEXT is the place.

  • Art and Science

At IAS, we bring together artists, scientists, and individuals interested in the intersection of art and science. Through a variety of events, inspiring talks, and collaborative projects, we explore how these fields can inform and enhance each other. Our initiatives foster creativity, innovation, and cross-disciplinary exchange, providing a platform for fresh perspectives and new ideas.
