Research increasingly unfolds across disciplinary boundaries. Yet building an interdisciplinary career is not always straightforward. It can mean navigating unfamiliar methods, finding the right collaborators, learning to communicate beyond your own field and creating space for ideas that do not fit neatly within existing structures.  

IAS NEXT brings together researchers and academics who are working through these challenges and are drawn to the opportunities interdisciplinarity can bring. We offer a space to meet others who are also looking beyond the boundaries of their own discipline, to exchange experiences, to build new skills, and to become part of the wider interdisciplinary community at the UvA Institute for Advanced Study. 

Find your way into the network

There are different ways to become part of IAS NEXT. Our activities offer chances to connect informally, exchange ideas, develop skills and discover new perspectives on interdisciplinary research.  

Co-working session

Work alongside other early-career researchers at IAS, and have a day of writing and research with peers, or just a change of scenery. These sessions are an easy, informal way to meet researchers from different disciplines, talk through challenges you face and build connections. 

Masterclasses 

Build the practical knowledge and skills that help you make interdisciplinarity work, in both your research and your career. Masterclasses cover topics like research communication, societal impact, funding, collaboration and leadership, combining hands-on tools with the chance to learn from experienced researchers and from each other.  

NEXT Leads

The NEXT Leads are a small group of emerging researchers that help guide the network's direction and create a space for collaboration and new ideas.
