We live in a world where everything seems to be interwoven with everything else, and where cause and effect are hard to unravel. Climate change, global health and financial stability are just some examples of pressing problems that require new ways of thinking and an interdisciplinary approach.

At the IAS, researchers from a wide range of disciplines work together on complex scientific and societal challenges. What they all have in common is curiosity, creativity and an enormous drive to delve into major questions. In their pursuit of new knowledge and solutions they are not afraid to colour outside the lines.

Selection

Candidates should be enrolled full-time at the UvA in a master’s programme. The selection is based on academic excellence, motivation, (inter)personal skills and thesis topic.

In order to be eligible for this opportunity, your thesis should be focussed on a challenging scientific question that is studied from a system's perspective. And, it should be linked to one of our research themes. If you don’t have a thesis topic yet, you can have a look at the IAS website for inspiration.

Period

Thesis writing : between Jan 2020 and July 2020

• a motivation letter (max. 300 words)
