Co-creating Narratives on Digital Twins in Healthcare
In this workshop, participants collaboratively develop narratives and visualizations that explore the role of digital twins in healthcare. The setting is a dynamic and open-minded creative space that brings together contributors from the arts, sciences, clinical practice, and communication. Using digital twins examples we will explore how to establish accessible, engaging interfaces to connect science with the public.
In healthcare, a digital twin is a virtual representation of an individual patient’s physiology and health data. It can enable treatment simulation, predict disease progression, and support personalized care. Although still an emerging technology, digital twins are steadily maturing toward real clinical application. As futuristic as they may seem, they are likely to become an integral part of clinical decision-making.
Because digital twins are ultimately a human-centered technology, it is essential to consider how clinicians, patients, and researchers will interact with them. During the workshop, participants will build a shared understanding of the potential of digital twins—and the limitations they carry. This shared foundation will spark an open, interdisciplinary dialogue that makes both the transformative possibilities and the challenges of this technology more tangible, relatable, and accessible.
Together, participants will create vivid, meaningful stories that bring the future of digital twins in healthcare to life.
The workshop is organised by IAS Fellow Sven Hirsch and moderated by IAS Journalist-in-Residence Sanne Bloemink.
