Join the AI, Media & Democracy group at IAS for a special World AI Week event featuring leading experts in the AI, Media & Democracy field. In an interactive and dynamic speed round setting, attendees will have the unique opportunity to connect with 4 interdisciplinary scientists and gain actionable insights and new perspectives.
Whether you take a seat across from Theresa Seipp to discuss how media are challenging Big Tech, or ask Sanne Vrijenhoek about diversity in recommender systems, this interactive experience will offer participants a bite-sized overview of cutting-edge research on AI in the media sector and its implications for democracies worldwide.
The setup will feature cafe-style tables, and following the classic ‘speed-dating’ format, you will have 10 minutes with each scientist. Theresa Seipp
Dr. Theresa Seipp is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam’s Institute for Information Law. Her research focuses on regulating the opinion power and political power of digital platforms in European media law and policy, fundamental rights, especially media freedom and pluralism, and platform regulation.
Sanne Vrijenhoek
Sanne Vrijenhoek is a PhD candidate at the University of Amsterdam’s Institute for Information Law. She has a degree in Artificial Intelligence and dedicates her research to developing metrics for more diverse news recommenders.
Anna Schjøtt Hansen
Anna Schjøtt Hansen is a technological anthropologist and PhD Candidate in the Media Studies Department at the University of Amsterdam. Her PhD research ethnographically explores different epistemic spaces across the media sector where AI systems are discussed, presented, developed, and evaluated to critically examine the politics of AI design processes and their implications.
Sophie Morosoli
Sophie Morosoli is also a postdoctoral researcher at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research. Within the AI, Media & Democracy Lab, she explores individuals’ attitudes towards AI in journalism with a special focus on trust, risk perceptions, and authenticity.
