About Prof. Mari Mikkola

Mari Mikkola is Full Professor of Philosophy and Chair of Metaphysics at the University of Amsterdam and since August 2022 she is the Head of the Philosophy Department. Her areas of expertise are in feminist philosophy, particularly feminist metaphysics, and pornography debates in philosophy. In addition, her current work deals with philosophical methodology and conceptions of hate speech. 

Before coming to Amsterdam, she obtained her PhD in 2005 in Philosophy at the University of Sheffield. After Lecturer positions at the Universities of Stirling and Lancaster, in 2010 she became Junior Professor in Practical Philosophy at the Humboldt-University in Berlin and was appointed Professor in 2016. From 2017-2021 she worked at Oxford University as Associate Professor of Philosophy and Fellow of Somerville College.
