Evi-Anne van Dis, Claudi Bockting and colleagues argued earlier this year for an urgent need to develop a set of ‘living’ guidelines to govern how AI and tools such as GPT-4 are used and developed. To discuss these concerns they have convened an summit of invited participants, with representatives from organizations including the science-ethics committee of UNESCO, the United Nations' scientific and cultural agency, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the World Economic Forum. During this follow-up meeting, attendees will finalize a first version of “living guidelines” for responsibly using generative AI in general, and LLMs in particular, in research and to safeguard the impact on society.
