An important difference between neural networks and symptom networks on the other hand is the ontological status of the nodes: these are concrete entities in the first two, and variables with a mental component (e.g., distress, sad mood, anhedonia, craving, fear) in symptom networks.

The focus of the meeting is on theoretical and methodological aspects, with concrete cases as examples (for example, effects of deep brain stimulation on neural networks and symptom networks; effects of therapeutic interventions on neural and symptom networks). The main aim would be to work toward writing a white paper and make a next step in finding new target points for interventions.
