Philosophy of science brings many scientific disciplines together because it studies scientific practice in a wide range of disciplines. Some will study general topics (e.g., causal inference, confirmation theory) and others will study topics within a specific field (philosophy of physics, philosophy of biology, philosophy of psychology). Because of these relations between philosophy of science and other scientific disciplines, not all philosophers of science work in a philosophy department.

There are colleagues across the different departments of the UvA who work on philosophy of science topics, and this event brings them together. Not all who work on a philosophy of science topic will identify primarily as a philosopher of science; maybe you would describe yourself as an anthropologist, political scientist, mathematician or other, while your work still ties into questions in philosophy of science. If this is the case for you, you are also welcome.

On June 2 from 1:30 to 3:00 PM Riet van Bork and Jolien Francken  will organize a first, informal meeting at the UvA Institute for Advanced Study (IAS). They would like to bring together all philosophers of science from across the UvA and think together about ways in which we can be more strongly connected to each other. Van Bork and Francken will welcome the participants and Huub Dijstelbloem will be present to briefly introduce the new UvA RPA/Public methodology lab.

This is an invitation-only event.
