As Messengers’ is an immersive film installation exploring how ever-changing social imaginaries enmesh humans with the biosphere. A cast of characters traverse five alternative timelines, revealing a kaleidoscopic array of speculative ‘historical forks’: critical junctures where alternative relationalities could have unfolded. In these scenarios, other species act as messengers of the ongoing biodiversity crisis.

More about the Future Heritage residency

Together, IAS and Allard Pierson have created the Future Heritage Residency as a space where research and science meet art, where heritage helps us imagine the future, and where UvA’s research community and collections meet the public. Between November 2023 - April 2024, Tapprest and Wilson have interacted with IAS researchers and Allard Pierson’s collection at the Artis Library, informing the development of their new film work ‘As Messengers’.

Event is a special preview for the IAS community.
