Ruha Benjamin was doing groundbreaking research on race, technology, and justice, focusing on big, structural changes. COVID-19 and anti-Black police violence inspired her to rethink the importance of small, individual actions. Her new book Viral Justice is a sweeping and deeply personal exploration of how we can transform society through the choices we make every day.
Ruha Benjamin is a professor of African American studies at Princeton University, founding director of the Ida B. Wells JUST Data Lab and author of three books, Viral Justice (2022), Race After Technology (2019), and People’s Science (2013), and editor of Captivating Technology (2019).
She writes, teaches, and speaks widely about the relationship between innovation and inequity, knowledge and power, race and citizenship, health and justice. During the afternoon, we give Master students who have read her work the special opportunity to engage with the author and peers directly and openly.
There is a limited amount of spaces available for this event and we encourage participants to actively engage with Viral Justice in particular in preparation. To ensure a lively and relevant conversation, we are asking you to please let us know your specific interest in prof Benjamin's work when registering. We will confirm availability as soon as possible.
