About the topic

We live in a highly connected world and are surrounded by a large diversity of complex systems. Think of organisms, ecosystems, cities, societies, and so on. All complex systems are characterised by bottom-up emergent properties (including tipping points, resilience versus robustness). How can we better understand 'emergence', and can we make use of it?

Emergence Prof. Peter Bolhuis, IAS Associate
Resilience Prof. Marcel Olde Rikkert, IAS External Faculty member
Tipping Points Prof. Han van der Maas, IAS Associate

Networking and interaction

Besides the plenary presentations, there will be much time to exchange knowledge and ideas with your colleagues.
