We aim to create an open research community involving different partners in our work programme. We regularly collaborate with research institutes, governmental, non-governmental and private sector organisations in a joint quest to find solutions to complex problems.
Working together to solve complex challenges
We live in an increasingly complex, highly connected and rapidly changing world, causing all kinds of new challenges. Through the IAS, you can get access to a wide variety of researchers from all across the UvA to join in collaborative, solutions-oriented research projects. By combining our expertise with that of public and private sector organisations, we can find ways to predict, control, or mitigate the effects of pressing societal challenges.
We are currently in the process of developing our strategic partnership policy. We closely collaborate with the following institutes on complex systems research:
We are also exploring research partnerships with sister institutes in the network of University-Based Institutes for Advanced Study (UBIAS).
Example: tackling criminal networks
Working closely with the Dutch police, an interdisciplinary research team found a more effective way to destabilise cannabis networks: removing very specialised players rather than the most high-profile and seemingly influential criminals.
Work with us
